So at the end of term, Fly FM saw around 300 student radio enthusiasts descend upon Nottingham Trent Uni for the Student Radio Conference 2010, and wow what a couple of days they were. Speakers such as Andy Parfitt, Paul Jackson and Trevor Dann gave talks on the radio industry throughout the day, and also saw the likes of Scott Mills spinning tunes into the night. It was an incredibly insightful and entertaining few days, learning that creativity is key when wanting a job in the industry. It was great to be around people who shared the same passion as me, although I am now happy to be at home for Easter relaxing with my Easter eggs!
In an absurd turn of events, I entered the ‘Voice of the Student Radio Awards 2010’..and won. Yes, the girl from Essex with the nickname “‘Arrison” on the back of her shirt! This means my accent will be booming across the Indigo2 in November at the awards, and I can’t bloody wait! Thanks to Wise Buddah for proving maybe accents aren’t annoying, they’re character showing.
I was also given a brilliant opportunity to be on the panel for Trevor Dann’s radio show on Amazing Radio. Trevor is the Chief Exec at the Radio Academy, but was a producer at Radio One and also Head of Music Entertainment, so to be a part of his show was an honour. The show featured six songs by unsigned artists, and myself and two friends at Fly FM were on the panel and voiced our opinions on them. To work with and watch how Trevor composed himself on the radio really opened my eyes on how professional he was, and how you must be. The link to the show, if you’d like to listen to some brand spanking new music that I guarantee you have never heard before, is at the top of this post!
Stay classy,
Jaye xx
