This is how all covers should sound.
The Maccabees have done it again. This time recording for Club SEAT, they recorded three songs straight to vinyl, including this beautiful, haunting cover of ‘The Snowman.’ Don’t even begin to think that they must’ve ruined this iconic song, we’re not dealing with the X Factor here. A grittier, atmospheric and intense version, they’ve managed to make it sound like the original, but have put their stamp on it with touching vocals, sensitive guitar riffs and bold brass. I don’t know if Orlando means to send shivers up your spine, but he manages to do it every time he opens his mouth. There’s various YouTube comments such as ‘this for Christmas number 1!’, but I think this should be kept not as a secret, but close to your heart. The Maccabees have managed to show the rest of the world how a Christmas cover should sound, and that they don’t need to release it to earn a following. The Maccabees are hard workers, but they make this look effortless whilst turning everything they touch into gold.
